This Stony Shore: haiku and photographs

singingsandsalvar-mittelhol

above the curve of alvar
a hawk hovers — wingbeats
slow and deep

waves on the rocky shore
after each swish
a hush

glacial stones
the stories they tell
of long ago and far away

a fritillary flits
from violet to violet
to violet . . .

nodding
a wildflower
I don’t know

windless moment
photographing a harebell
I hold my breath

on weathered bedrock
an old woman photographs
ancient boulders

fossil
I snap a photo
as a record

in an inland ocean
half a billion years ago
these same water molecules

waterbug
navigating
the deep blue sky
